We would like to introduce our newest arrival:
Peyton Noelani Owen
Arrived at 1:36 AM February 2, 2011
Weighing 6 lbs. 1 oz. & Measuring 18 inches long
* The delivery went extremely well- I was only in labor for 4 hours.* Her little heart rate kept dropping with each contraction and push and we found out the reasoning once she had arrived- her cord was wrapped around her neck and she had a death grip on it with her little hand. I was very lucky I didn't have to have an emergency C-section. Luckily I have an AMAZING OB-GYN who acted quickly and professionally and delivered her without any major problems.
*Peyton had some jaundice and had to be on the bili blanket, but thankfully it passed! She is a healthy little girl.
*She only lost 5% of her birth weight after she was born (which is great!). Because we were trying to get the jaundice through her system quickly, I had to feed her every 2 hours. This resulted in her weighing more than her birth weight just two days after we brought her home from the hospital!
* She has really strong neck muscles and can already hold her own head up for short amounts of time when she is on her belly (longest has been 20 seconds or so).
* She loves smiling and rarely cries, except when she is hungry or needs a diaper change.
* She loves cuddling with mommy and daddy
* She wakes up about 4 times at night from 10 PM to 10 AM, but after a good feeding and diaper change she usually falls right back to sleep.
Dave and I have thoroughly enjoyed finally having our baby girl with us. Her little spirit has been in our home for a while so it hasn't been too different, except the fact that we actually have to be parents now, but we are loving it!
The first couple of days home from the hospital were the hardest for me, but each day gets easier and easier.
Breastfeeding HAS been the hardest thing I have ever had to do because it takes patience on both you and your babies part and neither one of you knows what you are doing. I recommend breastfeeding to any new mommy out there though, even though it is a struggle! It is not only beneficial to the baby because they are getting the proper nutrients and are able to bond with you as their mommy, but it is good for the mommy too because it helps the uterus shrink; therefore, you get into your pre-pregnancy pants A LOT FASTER!
{Trust me on this one, Peyton is only 1 and a half weeks old and I don't even look like I was pregnant. The only thing that has changed from the pre-mommy-shina is my hips are a little wider and my breasts are producing food and are bigger!!!}
Shina, you are so funny! And she is amazingly perfect. You are going to love being a mommy so so much. I can tell. I was a wimp when it came to breastfeeding, but I'm glad you are toughing it out and then next time around you can tell me all your tricks! :) Happy post-delivery recovery! Hope to see you both again soon!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! She is an absolute doll! We are so glad that you had such a smooth delivery. You go girl... or girls as the case may be :) What is the name of your doctor? We are trying to scope out some good ones in the hopes that we'll be able to use them sometime this year.
ReplyDeleteShaela, our Dr. is at the Circle of Life Womens Center in South Ogden and his name is Randy Alejo. He is absolutly AMAZING! He is Filipino and from Hawaii and Pete and Rosann actually go to him as well and love him!
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be able to use a good doctor later this year too:)
Oh my gosh! I can't even count how many times I have heard people rave about that place! It sounds like it's pretty amazing. I will remember that for sure. It's good to know what specific doctors are especially wonderful over there :)
