The Wedding Dress!!!!

Yesterday I decided to take a weekend getaway to Springville to visit my Hicks grandparents. My aunt Amber was making a 5-tiered wedding cake for her little brothers wedding, which was today. She and I and my grandma were able to chit-chat about wedding ideas and the upcoming events. It was a lot of fun and I am well aware now that fondent is disgusting, beautiful, but disgusting!

This morning my grandma and I went to Provo and looked around various bridal shops for some ideas on wedding dresses. We went to Alyssa's Bridal in the Provo Towne Mall and found TONS of beautiful, modest dresses! My only concern was the $$$. The girl that helped me though was fantastic and such a great help!!!

  • I guess I'm kind of pickey when it comes to dresses, but I am not a fan of the big floofeyness that so many girls like now-a-days. I'm not a huge fan of bead work either.. I love it, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it is WAY TOO MUCH!
  • I would much rather rent a dress too. Personally, I think the thousands of dollars that parents spend on their daughers dresses are a waste... they're never going to wear them again. The money that is spent on dresses would be of more worth going toward a savings account for a rainey day or for the food at the reception. I don't get it.
Amber told us of a little shop on Bulldog that has gorgeous dresses for a cheaper price; she bought her dress there two years ago when she married my uncle. My grandma and I went there after Alyssa's; this was the BEST decision I ever made! We went right to my dress size and I found dress after dress that looked perfect; not a lot of bead work, not a huge train, and CHEAP!

I was coming in and out of the dressing room for over an hour with very elegant, beautiful dresses on! My grandma kept saying, "let's just just get one of each!" It was so much fun and I had a great time! The best part of this story is- I found the perfect dress, and- I bought it!

You will never guess the absolute best part of this whole story! The price was originally $449 and she dropped it to $399! After tax the total was $425.94! AND ***For my birthday in November my grandma gave me a coupon to go shopping with her. I never used this because I would rather she keep her money, but she insisted I let her pay for part of my dress. She paid $200!!!! I was blown away with her kindness! My dress only cost ME $225.94!!!!!
The owner of the store asked me if I wanted them to steam my dress a few days before the wedding, but because it is in Provo I told her no. Because I didn't want it steamed she told me I could choose to take a FREE slip, tiara or viel!!!! The dress has the right amount of poof that I wanted so I said no to the Slip.. i'm not wearing a veil... so I went with the tiara!
I cannot believe how everything worked out! The dress is gorgeous and totally me and I can't wait for David to see me in it! The price was lower than my budget amount because my amazing grandma! This is just another testament to me that saying "yes" to David is the best decision I have made! Things are coming together perfectly and Dave and I are both being blessed so much!
I know our Father in Heaven has been preparing us for each other! I look forward to being his wife for eternity with anticipation!
